Louisville, KY – Highview Arts Center (HAC) is thrilled to announce the launch of its third theatrical season with Shakespeare: The Icons, multimedia production that reimagines the Bard's most iconic scenes and monologues. The show will debut on Thursday, September 12th, offering a dynamic experience through the beginnings, endings, women, lovers, villains, and fools which showcases the enduring relevance of Shakespeare's work.
In the current entertainment climate with Taylor Swift, Charli XCX, and Chappell Roan, Shakespeare: The Icons invites audiences on a journey of Shakespeare's "eras", featuring powerful performances by Marc McHone, Karole Spangler, Jordan Aikin, Joy Beth DeWitt-Riley, Jake Rosenberger, Laurel Henning, Brooke Spatol, Natalie Dispenza, Rayann Houghlin Walker, Evelyn Whiting, with a special appearance by Ebony Jordan. This innovative approach breathes new life into well-known characters and speeches, making them accessible and engaging for all—whether you’re a seasoned theatergoer or experiencing Shakespeare for the first time.
“Our goal with this production is to show that Shakespeare truly is for everyone,” said Jill Marie Guelda, Program & Production Director of Highview Arts Center. “We believe that these stories, these characters, and these words belong to all of us, and you don’t need to be an expert or have any prior experience with Shakespeare to connect with them.”
Highview Arts Center has been committed to making the arts accessible and relevant to the community, and this production is no exception. Under Jake Rosenberger's new adaption, a mix of traditional and contemporary elements, Shakespeare: The Icons promises to resonate with the whole community, demonstrating that the Bard's work is as vibrant and relatable today as it was over 400 years ago.
