After a monumental lifetime lighting the way to America's shore, Lady Liberty (yes, THAT Lady Liberty) finds her voice, steps off her pedestal and ventures out to tell her story. When she accidentally walks into a theater full of people, she decides to spend a few moments ruminating about her experiences, memories and hopes for our nation's future. A thoughtful comedy exploring the origins of one of our nation's most enduring symbols.
Rojas recalls first encountering the Statue of Liberty on a postcard sent from a granduncle in Ohio in the ‘60s. This was before emmigrating from Cuba to the United States with his family at age 6, with only one suitcase and fifty-dollars for their family of five. In conversation with artistic director Christopher Ostrom, Rojas remembered thinking Lady Liberty was “beautiful and embodied the promise of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, in a country where all are considered equals.”
